My Approach

The great thing about a Humanist wedding is that you can create a ceremony that is personal and unique to you - this is your opportunity to express how you feel about each other and why you want to marry. It’s also about your families and friends and I will help you create a ceremony that makes them feel included in your happiness.

When you first get in touch with me, I will send you an overview of how your ceremony could be structured, to give you some information and to get you thinking of ideas for your ceremony.

If you decide to make a booking, I will send you lots more information including:
  • Example ceremonies.
  • Examples of wording of vows: these can be adapted to suit you or you can use them as inspiration to write your own.
  • Examples of wording for exchange of rings.
  • A collection of poetry and readings: you can choose something from the collection or you may have your own ideas.
  • Examples of symbolic gestures that could be included including handfasting, candle lighting or drinking from a Quaich, for example.
I will also ask you to write a bit about yourselves and what marriage means to you.

About four months before your wedding, after you’ve had a chance to look over all the examples, I will arrange to meet with you, usually over a cuppa! We will discuss your plans and any ideas you may have for your ceremony.

After we have met, I will send you a draft of your ceremony and you can advise of any changes. Then all you have to do is relax and enjoy your special day!
